LGTBIQ+

In recent years, Uruguay has established itself as a friendly destination, where tourists find a specialized offer, quality services and an advanced legislation where respect for diversity prevails.

Charming cities, fun nights, captivating architecture, art and culture in all its expressions, sophisticated hotels and restaurants, beaches and nature, are some of the options of a country to know, where everything is very close.

The experience of feeling Uruguay is completed with a gastronomy marked by the pairing of world-renowned meats and Tannat, a variety of wine that wins international awards.

In Montevideo, the capital of the country, a group of private enterprises directly related to the LGBT+ community, formed the so-called Friendly Table, in the Tourism Conglomerate of Montevideo with the aim of providing tourists with personalized information to make their experience unforgettable.

With an open and inclusive vocation, Uruguay has had, since the beginning of the 20th century, an advanced legislation in the recognition of labor and social rights. At present, this profile is completed with the enactment of laws on anti-discrimination, change of registered sex, cohabitation, adoption, equal marriage and inclusion of the transgender population.

In April 2015, Montevideo was considered the most gay-friendly city on the continent, ahead of other destinations such as Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City and Guadalajara, according to the specialized publication Sentido G.

In the annual index 2024 prepared by Spartacus Traveler, the most important LGBT+ tourism guide in the world, Uruguay ranks 8th in the global ranking as a friendly and safe destination for this segment due to its treatment and its advanced anti-discrimination regulations; being the only Latin American country among the top 10.
