Traveling by electric car in Uruguay
In the fight against climate change and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, electric vehicles are a sustainable alternative that Uruguay encourages and promotes.
The country stands out in the region for having the first nationwide electric road. 100% electric or hybrid vehicles are here to stay and expand.
In addition to the possibility of charging vehicles at home, Uruguay’s public electricity network provides recharging services at strategic points on public roads and ANCAP stations. In general, these are located at an average distance of 80 kilometers.
Persons using electric vehicles must complete a formulario online to apply for a card with which they can access chargers installed at gas stations and other sites in the cities.
Through a software linked to this card, the cost of the charge will be added to the UTE invoice in the case of Uruguayan citizens or residents; for Uruguayan citizens or residents, the cost of the charge will be added to the UTE invoice; for Uruguayan citizens or residents, the cost of the charge will be added to the UTE invoice tourists the load is enabled remotely. Once the visitor enters Uruguayan territory, he/she will pick up a card that enables access to the cargo. Afterwards, an electronic invoice will be sent to the visitor’s email with the amount used, which can be paid online.
It is now possible to pay through a debit or credit card by simply scanning a QR code from the APP “UTE Mueve”. This technological tool, available for cell phones with Android e iOS, in turn shows the progress of the charging network. The system uses geolocation to indicate to the user where the nearest charging point is. At the same time, it enables the historical consultation of the charging sessions performed by the user.
Assured supply
The electric units currently circulating in our country have a charging autonomy that ranges between 180 and 500 kilometers. In just 20 minutes a battery recovers an average range between 100 and 150 km, depending on the power supported by the vehicle and the charger being used.
