It has an area of approximately 20,000 hectares where lowlands (marshes, grasslands, lagoons, river courses), one of the largest masses of natural riparian forests in the country, highlands (basaltic mountain ranges and associated hill forests), as well as shrublands or chircales are represented.

The area was also the scene of many events that marked the history of our country, so that in addition to its natural value it has a high cultural, historical and archaeological value.
In the forests of Paysandú lived the last charrúas and you can still find the ranch, on the banks of the Queguay, where Melchora Cuenca, the Paraguayan wife of José Artigas, spent her last years.
How to get there?

The area is located within the Queguay river basin, in the department of Paysandú, 40 km from the city of Guichón and 70 km from the city of Paysandú, where you will find a variety of lodging and food services. The access to the area is made by the National Routes Nº 90, Nº 4 and Nº 26, to then take local roads.

Visitor Center

The protected area has the Queguay visitor center, on the Andrés Pérez road, 20 kilometers from Guichón and west of Paysandú, which serves as a gateway for the reception and visitor services. It also has a gastronomic area, restrooms and changing rooms, in charge of the Queguay Canoas Club.

From there you can access hiking services, guided tours, photographic safaris, recognition of flora and fauna, mountain biking, canoeing and sport fishing with return.
