It is a city of 25,000 inhabitants emerged in the mid-nineteenth century under the influence of the meat industry. The first industrial establishment of the country was installed there, the internationally famous Liebig's meat packing plant, which currently makes up the Fray Bentos Industrial Cultural Landscape, recently declared Historical and Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco.\r\nAs places of interest are: the promenade, the Museum of the Industrial Revolution, the Anglo Neighborhood, the Luis Solari Museum, the Hargain Square, the Young Theater, the Roosevelt Park and the Summer Theater. Other attractions are the panoramic route from Barrio Anglo to Las Ca\u00f1as bathing resort, the viewpoint of the San Mart\u00edn Bridge; and the UPM industrial plant, which can be visited by previous coordination.\r\nThe department to which it belongs is located between the two most important rivers in the country, the majestic Uruguay River and the mighty Negro River. Both have a combined flow of more than five million liters per second.\r\nThe territory is irrigated by numerous watercourses and has coasts on two important hydroelectric reservoirs: Rinc\u00f3n de Palmar and Rinc\u00f3n de Baygorria. Its climate is mild and pleasant, which favors the enjoyment of nature at all times of the year.\r\nR\u00edo Negro has beautiful fluvial beaches such as Las Ca\u00f1as, Puerto Viejo and Potrero de Burro on the Uruguay River and Los Arrayanes on the Negro River.\r\nThe department is also characterized by the presence of multiple areas of value and prodigal biodiversity. The preservation and valorization of these areas has been beneficial for the local communities living in the area. Thus, for example, Esteros de Farrapos e Islas de R\u00edo Uruguay, located on the western river coast of the department, was identified and promoted as a Protected Area by the National System of Protected Areas, and is a source of pride for the people of Rio Negro.","primary_image":"[{\"id\":2034,\"url\":\"https:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/FrayBentos-Anglo.jpg\"}]","secondary_image":"[]","gallery_images":"[{\"id\":2587,\"url\":\"http:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Fray-Bentos-01.png\"},{\"id\":2588,\"url\":\"http:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Fray-Bentos-02.png\"},{\"id\":2589,\"url\":\"http:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Fray-Bentos-03.png\"},{\"id\":2590,\"url\":\"http:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Fray-Bentos-04.png\"},{\"id\":2591,\"url\":\"http:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Fray-Bentos-05.png\"},{\"id\":2592,\"url\":\"http:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Fray-Bentos-06.png\"},{\"id\":2593,\"url\":\"http:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Fray-Bentos-07.png\"}]","enable_map":"1","coord_lat":"","coord_lng":"","locations":"-33.12711153235802,-58.29733051198959","department":"Rio Negro","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/places\/1060","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/places"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/places"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1060"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"place-categories","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/uruguaynatural.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/place-categories?post=1060"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
