Cabo Polonio, Rocha<\/strong>\r\nBortle's Scale: class 2\r\n\r\nCabo Polonio National Park is a great charmer of bohemian spirits for preserving typical characteristics of the Uruguayan Atlantic coast landscape, prior to the transformation process that began in the mid-twentieth century. There is no public lighting, which allows the observation of the starry sky to the fullest. There are no streets but irregular paths that link the small and rudimentary houses. The entrance is made in all-terrain vehicles, specially conditioned so as not to damage the natural landscape.\r\n\r\nIn terms of landscape, gigantic dunes, sandy beaches, rocky points, native coastal forest and small islands full of sea lions are part of the charms of the place.\r\n\r\n2. Villa Serrana, Lavalleja<\/strong>\r\nEscala de Bortle: class 2\r\n\r\nLocated in the middle of the mountains of Lavalleja, 25 kilometers from Minas, this small town offers unique starry nights, which can be appreciated even more from the neighborhood where the astronomical observatory \"Eta Carinae\" was located - currently closed - and baptized among the locals as the \"Observatory\" neighborhood. From there you can participate in the observation days called \"Open Sky Planetarium\", organized by the Octante Astronomical Society, composed of friends, amateurs and professionals of astronomy who frequent the place.\r\n\r\nIts tranquility invites to the encounter with oneself and nature. Among the favorite outings are the Salto del Penitente Park, the Ventorrillo de la Buena Vista inn, the Padre P\u00edo grotto, sitting down to drink the traditional mate on the shores of the reservoir lake, walking through the wild environment, hiking through the Hilo de la Vida valley and horseback riding in all its corners.\r\n\r\n3. Cerro Arequita, Lavalleja<\/strong>\r\nBortle Scale: class 3\r\n\r\nHuge rocks of 120 million years old that lie 12 kilometers from the city of Minas will make you feel the immensity of nature and the value of the starry sky that accompanies them.\r\n\r\nThis geological curiosity, which reaches a height of 505 meters, has in its interior several caves that captivate the visitor. At the base of the hill is the parador El Mirador, which offers homemade meals and guided tours. Nearby is located the municipal camping with cabins and complete services or the one at the base of the Laguna de los Cuervos, smaller and of very familiar profile.\r\n\r\n4. Ravine of the Crows, Treinta y Tres<\/strong>\r\nBortle Scale: class 2\r\n\r\nIf you are looking to breathe fresh air and feel like you are \"submerged\" in nature, this will become one of your favorite destinations just by witnessing the majesty of its landscape and dark sky. This hidden paradise is a geographical accident that combines a gorge opened by the Yerbal Chico stream and wild mountain ranges.\r\n\r\nAn adventure destination, a must to experience nature from up close and appreciate more than 180 species of birds recorded so far and a large variety of mammals, amphibians and fish.\r\n\r\nAmong the services available in the gorge are: hiking, bird watching, environmental education activities, visitor center, park ranger service, camping and cabins. There are also some restrictions, given that it is a Natural Protected Area, such as entry with pets, hunting, fishing, campfires, and plant collection.\r\n\r\n5. Barrancas de San Pedro, Colonia<\/strong>\r\nBortle Scale: class 4\r\n\r\nIt is a portion of 8 km of coast in the department of Colonia, between the river San Juan and the creek San Pedro, where there are ravines of up to 15 meters of height of high paleontological value. There, on the ravine or in the pieces that have broken off from them and are now lying on the sand, fossil remains and mollusk casts can be found. All this is part of the Camacho formation, sediments of the Tertiary era, which are between 5 and 11 million years old and are uncovered..., just look.\r\n\r\nThe descent to the beach is through Brisas del Plata, a picturesque camping site that offers the possibility of staying meters from the coast, with all the services.
