The new building, designed by the Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott, measures 1,600 m2 and has two halls housing traveling exhibitions of more than 50 painters and sculptors of the continent, together with the private collection of Pablo Atchugarry himself.

This dream of the Uruguayan sculptor is "a refuge and dialogue between established and emerging contemporary artists," said its promoter.

There are modern pieces by Venezuelans Jesús Rafael Soto and Carlos Cruz-Diez, Argentina's Julio Le Parc with his large sphere, Uruguay's Joaquín Torres García, María Freire, Miguel Ángel Pareja and José Pedro Costigliolo, among others. The building also has a sort of viewpoint that allows a dialogue between art and nature.

Admission to the museum is free and it aims to "promote all the arts", in addition to "triangulate exhibitions and residencies for artists", both between the foundation and other art galleries in the region, said the sculptor. He hopes to place "national art in the regional context" and become "a refuge for Latin American art".
+ info: macamuseo.org/

Unparalleled sunsets in Casapueblo

Once in Punta Ballena you can visit the museum and house of Uruguayan artist Carlos Páez Vilaró, Casapueblo, who paid homage to the sun with a poem and several paintings and sculptures. "Casapueblo is your house, that's why everyone calls it the house of the sun. The sun of my life as an artist. The sun of my solitude. I feel like a millionaire in suns, which I keep in the piggy bank of the horizon," he acknowledges at the end of his poem. In 1896, Antonio Lussich bought Punta Ballena and became the pioneer of forestation and introduction of species from different continents.
